11-17 May is Mental Health Awareness Week; so for the next few days, our Wellbeing Ambassadors are leading morning assembly to help raise awareness and offer practical support to their peers on managing mental wellbeing.
Our Year 10 ambassadors, Rose C, Hannah F, Ines Y, Alexia M and Mikayla S, began today’s assembly by introducing this year’s theme, “Action”, reflecting on how both small and big actions can positively impact our mental health and help to reduce stress.
Students explored how relationships with fitness, family and friends, food, and our phones can influence wellbeing. They shared simple and effective ways to support mental health, from talking to someone you trust and eating mindfully, to making sure you spend time outdoors in the sunshine everyday. Setting healthy boundaries around screen time was also encouraged, particularly before bed and during meals. Students were also reminded of the power of a quick boogie to our favourite song to lift our mood!
A key message our ambassadors emphasised was that recognising when you need support is not a weakness, but a strength. Students were reminded that help is always available, whether through their peers, Wellbeing Ambassadors, tutors, teachers, or the Erskine Centre. Our school community plays an important role in supporting one another, and we are all responsible for showing compassion and empathy.
In addition, students were signposted to external support services such as Childline, YoungMinds and Shout 85258, for those who may prefer to seek help beyond school.
Before students went off to class, they were encouraged to think of one positive action they could take this week to support their own mental health, reinforcing the idea that even small steps can make a meaningful difference.
