World Book Day 2026 was a huge celebration at Sacred Heart packed with lots of events, visits, activities, and laughter! It was fantastic to see so many students and teachers dressed up as beloved book characters and engaging enthusiastically in portraying their wonderful costume creations!
The Library was transformed into our very own ‘Book Village’, which included a Book Village Café, Book Shop, Flower Shop, Castle, and Willow Trees. Tables in the Library were also decorated and themed and everything was wonderfully set up for students and staff to step into a book themed world! Students also took part in a World Book Day Scavenger Hunt, challenging them to find all 30 classic novels placed around the school to win a prize!
Our World Book Day began with drawing the raffle for the Year 10 Six Book Challenge, which challenged students to read six books between October and February half term. We are very proud of all the students who completed the challenge and send our congratulations to Rhodas, Natalia B, and Francince C for being the lucky winners of our raffle!
Marianne Levy, author of Accidental Superstar and Face the Music visited school to give a talk to Year 7 students. Marianne spoke about her books, experience of being an author, and practiced writing books and plotlines with students by encouraging them to come up with their own ideas. It was an amazing and fun-filled event which students really enjoyed!
Year 8 also received a talk and workshop from more World Book Day visitors. A team from Proud Places, a heritage and education company, spoke to Year 8 students about Lord Byron’s life and work. They additionally held workshops for Year 8 classes exploring Lord Byron’s poetry and enabling students to write their own poems inspired by Lord Byron’s writing style. Loads of students produced fantastic poems- we were very impressed!
World Book Day concluded with the Carnegie Award Shadowing Club, exploring the titles Longlisted for the Carnegie Award 2026, and with lots of reminiscing on the highlights of the day.
Many more activities, events, and visits happened during the week of World Book Day which will be discussed in a following post next week alongside the costume competition winners reveal! In the meantime, thank you to our whole School Community for such enthusiasm, joy, and celebration of reading this World Book Day!
