Today, we were delighted to welcome members of the Heritage of London Trust back to school to announce the winners of the Lord Byron Poetry Competition, which our Year 8 students took part in as part of World Book Day earlier this year.
A huge round of applause was given to our two runners-up, Raniel G and Tahlia F, and to our overall winner, Bea M, during morning assembly. The judges praised their eloquent and ambitious use of language, noting the consistently strong word choices and the incorporation of quintessential Byronic themes, including yearning, heartbreak, and vivid metaphors of love.
All three students have been invited to attend the reopening of the Lord Byron statue in Hyde Park in September 2026, following its restoration. Bea will also have the wonderful opportunity to read her poem to the crowd.
We are incredibly proud of all three students, as well as every student who showed the courage to submit an entry. We hope this experience inspires them to keep writing!
