We have submitted an application for listed building consent to repair the stone work and wall at the front of our site on Hammersmith Road and to repair and restore where possible, both sets of large double blue gates.
As part of this we have also asked for permission to erect an external noticeboard to the left of the school's main door on Hammersmith Road, so we can publicise public events. If consent is approved, this noticeboard, will be paid for by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
When the Society of the Sacred Heart reassembled their organ from Paris at the back of our chapel, the original seminary organ located behind the stone screen was removed and this area was re-purposed as a Lady Chapel with an elaborate wall painting of blue and gold with angels and stars. Today unfortunately magnolia, also some blue can still be seen behind Mary's head.
We we discussed with the restorer working on our cloister paintings, whether it might be possible to get back to that original painting under the magnolia, but suggests that would no longer be possible and not enough information would exist to restore it properly.
A kind member of the public has put us in touch with a mural painter and they are both going to try to raise money to have a new wall painting reinstalled. This will need consent from the Historic Churches Committee in due course and we have been liaising with the Society of the Sacred Heart, but the early draft designs, carefully researched, are very exciting to see.
