The talent and hard work of Year 9 poets from Sacred Heart were honoured as part of the grand unveiling ceremony of the newly-restored and relocated statue of Lord Byron in Hyde Park on Wednesday, 9 September.
Bea M. and Raniel G., two of the winners in last year’s poetry competition run by the Proud Places Project of the Heritage of London Trust, represented the school. After speeches by numerous dignitaries including HRH The Duke of Gloucester and Robert Byron, the 13th Baron Byron, Bea read aloud her prize-winning poem, Reminiscing Thee. According to Bea, the poem was ‘Byron-inspired’ after the Proud Places workshop last World Book Day. After the ceremony, both Raniel and Bea were interviewed by a representative from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, which provided financial support for the poetry and statue projects.
Congratulations to Bea and Raniel for representing the school so well, and to them and fellow winner Tahlia F. for their excellent creative work!
