Year 12 Bio-Engineering Talk at Imperial

Last week, a group of Year 12 students went to Imperial College for the day to discover more about bio-engineering in higher education. Here's what two students had to say:

The highlight of my trip to Imperial College was learning about molecular food bioengineering. The guest speaker began by asking us to think about our favourite meal and how it might not be as easy to come by in 2040, with the global population expected to reach around 10 billion people. I was especially fascinated by how the first-year undergraduate students made their own lab-grown ice cream. It felt almost futuristic to imagine making ice cream without cows or natural ingredients. I loved the idea that something so innovative could soon become part of everyday life. - Kaitlyn F

At first, my knowledge of  ‘bioengineering’ was limited, but as the lecture progressed, we were exposed to more and more information of how it is used and why it is important. I found the lectures quite interesting and vital to me as I am particularly interested in biomedical sciences. The lectures more than exceeded my expectations and I am glad to say that I have learnt something out of it. - Maiia A
