National Scientific Challenge Awards

A month ago, twenty-eight Year 10 students were selected by the Chemistry department to take part in the National Scientific Thinking Challenge, organised by a group of universities in the UK.

This year, 15,663 students from 266 schools in 10 countries participated. 

As well as the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland were all represented), schools in Singapore, Canada, Poland, Portugal, Germany, Abu Dhabi, Thailand, USA and Qatar were part of the competition

There were 123 non-selective state secondary schools; 107 independent schools; 29 academically selective state secondary schools amd 9 schools outside of the UK.

The questions are designed to be challenging and they ranked the results according to the grade boundaries below:

The top 10% of the entries achieved a gold certificate (84% of the marks and above).

Top 25% achieved a silver certificate. (74% of marks).

Top 40% achieved a bronze certificate. (67% of marks).
