The Goal of an Active Faith |
The Rt Rev. Paul McAleenan, Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster, is coming to Sacred Heart on Friday 24th October to celebrate Mass in our chapel, the home of the Guild of St Stephen for Altar Servers. The Guild's main goals are to promote high standards of liturgical service, help servers understand their role, and unite servers from different parishes for mutual support. Medals are awareded to altar servers of all ages.
It was here 120 years ago that Fr Hamilton McDonald, who was serving as chaplain from his parish in nearby Brook Green, had the idea to found the Guild of St Stephen. It was then adopted by Cardinal Bourne at Westminster Cathedral and then, in 1906, Pope Pius X elevated it to Archconfraternity status, allowing parishes to affiliate to it throughout England and Wales. In 1935 it was given further permission to affiliate to parishes in territories around the world. This year, they also celebrate 100 years of the Central Council of the Guild, established in 1925.
Approx 20 guests will be attending from the Guild but the event is also open to anyone from the school who wishes to attend, i.e. accompanied students, parents and staff. We need to gauge numbers so if you wish to attend please sign up for the event on Connect, linked below:
The Mass starts at 6pm.
