This week, our Library Society watched the much-anticipated 'Carnegies 2026' awards ceremony, live-streamed from the Cambridge Theatre in the West End. These awards are the UK’s longest running book awards for children and young people, run by library and information association, CILIP.
Applause broke out in our library when it was announced that author Beth O’Brien won both the Carnegie Medal for Writing and the Shadowers’ Choice Award for Writing for her feminist reimagining of Red Riding Hood, Wolf Siren. Inspired by Beth’s own lived experience, this is a nuanced book that represents visual impairment in an iconic fairytale retelling. Get to the library to check out a copy before they're all gone!
