The Goal of Building Community |
Twenty-four of our Year 9 students are involved in an intergenerational project in collaboration with the Irish Cultural Centre in Hammersmith working with some elderly Irish people who emigrated to London. This week they are completing the first stage of meeting these people and beginning to find out their life stories; their experiences growing up in Ireland and their life when they moved to London while comparing this to their modern day experience.
The students have been receiving skills and training in interviewing, photography, cinematography, editing and sound. Next week they are putting this into practice for the finished product where they will be solely on their own as they complete the final part of the interviews. This project will include a short film, photographs and objects that are symbolic of the persons life. It will be showcased as part of the ICCs anniversary and indeed our schools cultural celebrations later in the year.
