It was exciting to watch the gradual and painstaking cleaning of the angels in Stage 3 of our Cloister Paintings Restoration Project in August 2026.
The angels, painted by Mother Mary Maycock c.1905 are broad copies from angels painted by Fra Angelico around the edges of the central image of Tabernacolo dei Linaioli in Florence in 1433. Also restored in this stretch of the cloisters is Mother Mary's copy of Fra Angelico's Annunciation in the Convent of St Marco, Florence c1438-45.
Immediately this whole section looks brighter the and wording hidden beneath the angels is now a little clearer.
Thank you to all the parents and others who contributed to this project through donations and buying tickets to our Nunnery at Hammersmith talks.
Plans are now afoot to start fundraising for Stage 4!
