Visiting Speakers |
On Thursday 12 December 2024, the author and renowned journalist Dorian Lynskey came to talk to Years 11, 12 and 13. Dorian shared his range of views on George Orwell and the book 1984. He was asked an array of questions from students and teachers, one of which was why he chose to spend his career delving into authors such as George Orwell.
In response, Dorian explained his passion for the dystopian genre and the fact that he found Orwell’s work fascinating as it has a variety of topics you can explore.
While talking about George Orwell, he was very relaxed and it was evidently clear that he enjoys speaking about his work and views on the subject. In the talk, Dorian described Orwell's life and how it is a representation of Orwell himself.
He brought to our attention how Orwell was the first person to create the genre of dystopia or at least to put it into a novel format. Dorian mentioned how he is interested in the hope of a book and the idea that we might never fully understand a book. I personally enjoyed the talk and I feel like my peers would say the same.
