World Book Day

A whole host of events

This week we Celebrated World Book Day and held various activities and events throughout the week!

Alongside numerous activities held at the school library, we renewed our collaboration with Hammersmith Library and welcomed various visitors to our school.

On Monday, a group of Reading Representatives went on a trip to Hammersmith Library. They met with the Library Managers, receiving a tour of the Library archives and an introduction to the various events, workshops, and opportunities that the Library offers!

Similarly, two members of staff from Hammersmith Library visited our school on Tuesday and introduced the whole of Year 8 to Hammersmith Library. They told students all about their resources, enrichment opportunities, workshops, events, clubs, discussion groups, language learning portals, and much, much more! We are very excited to have started a new collaboration with Hammersmith Library and look forward to partnering with them in the future!

On the morning of World Book Day, forms received a very warm video of Sixth Form students wishing them a Happy World Book Day and Year 12 LRC Ambassadors discussing their Book Recommendations.

Marianne Levy visited our school and gave workshops to Year 7 and Year 9 students about the practice of crafting a novel, engaging students eagerly in discussion and showing them how to draft ideas for their own potential novels. Marianne also spoke about her own books which we have at the Library, which encouraged students to want to read them!

World Book Day was Costume Day. It was fantastic to see so many creative, detailed, and thought-through costumes and characters from both staff and students! A big well done to all students who dressed up, you looked incredible! The winners of our Secret Costume Competition will be announced on Monday.

Outside of various trips and visits throughout the week, students got the opportunity to engage in a Book to Film debate, Book Quiz, an Origami book-making workshop, and a workshop on Writing the First Few pages of your Novel. Students were also welcome to attend a ‘What makes a novel a classic’ lecture-style talk held at the Library, and to attend the regular weekly Library clubs, including World Book Day themed Book Club, Story Writing Club, Journaling Club, and Reading and Crafting Club. It was a pleasure to see you all there.

Thank you all for making World Book Day so special!
