Our Year 7 football team travelled to Cardinal Wiseman School on Monday to participate in the Father Barry Cup. This was the first year this tournament had run and was part of the EMMAUS school's partnership - the girls loved being a part of the day.
Each student was given the opportunity to collaborate with other schools as teams were made up of a mixture of students from the schools involved. Each team represented a different charity. Our four Sacred Heart girls representing Mary’s Meals, won the overall tournament. A shoutout to Harriet Fox and Cara Miller, who were nominated by team coaches as team players for the tournament.
Congratulations to everyone involved.
Father Barry, known by many as a 'peoples priest', died in 2019. His DOW obiturary refers to his having a winning way with children and young people. As Diocesan Youth Chaplain his commitment to young people had a lasting influence on many. For many years he had a dog, favouring spaniels. While in Yeading he named his dog Pod, the name by which a popular Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster, Pat O’Donoghue, was known. This brought amusement to the late Cardinal Basil Hume who enjoyed Fr Barry’s sense of humour, as did so many people over the years.
