On 9 July, a group of Chemistry enthusiasts from Year 10 attended a Chemistry Taster Day at Imperial College London, where they gained a fascinating insight into university-level study and careers in the scientific field.
The Imperial College Chemistry Taster Day was a great experience. First, we had a lecture where the teacher showed us a vanishing ink practical and a liquid hydrogen practical. We learned what careers we could pursue with a Chemistry degree and we were toured around the campus. This allowed us to understand life on campus and we saw many beautiful sites like the library, tutor rooms and food court.
We then came back to a large laboratory where we performed the iodine clock experiment. We mixed different concentrations of solutions with distilled water and used a stopwatch to measure how much time it took for the solution to turn blue.
The university students were really helpful and welcoming, and the experiments were exciting. The atmosphere was very lovely and many of us are now keen to study Chemistry at this university.
