On Tuesday 3 December, Year 12 and 13 Physics students had the incredible opportunity to visit the Royal Observatory in Greenwich. The trip was both educational and thrilling, as the students explored the planetarium, which deepened their understanding of the Solar System, our galaxy, and the vast universe beyond what they have studied in the classroom. The students were especially excited to stand on the Prime Meridian Line, a significant geographical landmark, and immerse themselves further into the fascinating world of astrophysics. It was an experience that sparked curiosity and a deeper appreciation for the wonders of space.
The trip was incredibly informative and it was nice to see all the different equipment astrologists used back in the day as well as learning the history behind some of that equipment. The Planetarium show dark room was extremely cool to be in, watching all the different visuals and learning some of the things associated with our galaxy was an interesting experience. I really enjoyed the visit to The Royal Observatory. It was indeed an educational and memorable experience for me. The things we learned about astronomy really excited me. If I actually say about my feelings, after coming back from this trip I realised why I took physics. It motivated me to work hard again on my dreams. Thank you so much for this amazing experience. Going to the Royal Observatory was a unique experience. We got to see the cross between the eastern and western hemispheres by walking over a singular line. Getting to go to a place that holds a lot of importance and getting to be next to different important things like the prime meridian felt very inspiring. My favourite part was being able to find my home country on the list of time zones relating to Greenwich. Maxine M Y12
