This illustrated talk forms part of the London Festival of Architecture and is aimed predominantly in members of the public interested in our Grade II* buildings.
Sacred Heart High School occupies a historic site on Hammersmith Road, blocked from view by a long wall. The site is opened regularly to the public allowing others to wonder at this architectural gem.
The talk reveals how recent historical research revealing a clandestine convent, an armed raid, a very rare artefact and lots of very strong women has fuelled a restoration drive, and we can show you progress in several of our projects.
This has piqued our students' interest in the past, and the part they are playing in this continued narrative.
There is something very special here, and we hope this feeling can be shared by members of the wider public.
One aspect of this story has recently been reported in the national press and has been shortlisted for a BBC radio programme. We hope it will surprise and delight those attending.
After the talk there will be refreshments and an exhibition. You will be free to wander through our cloisters with 130m of wall paintings of the Life of Christ, including copies of works by Fra Angelico. You can bask in the sun (let's hope!) in our secluded cloister garden, and view the frontage of this building from the lawn at the back of the site.
