New research reveals the secret plan of two queens; nuns challenging the pope and operating in disguise; a clandestine convent; armed raids, nuns in court; a wonderfully duplicitous young priest; rioting, escape, smuggling and survival.
Whether you are Catholic or not, whether you are religious or not, the fortitude and resilience of these women set an example to us all.
With refreshments and an exhibition after the talk; and an opportunity to see our Grade II* chapel and cloisters (normally inaccessible to the public) including 130m of wall painting of the Life of Christ.
This talk was first given under the title 'The Nunnery at Hammersmith'.
'The talk was absolutely fascinating, and delivered with intelligence, warmth and humour. I urge everyone to go.’
‘I can’t believe that was an hour, it went in a flash, riveting’.
